Shepherds College
Congratulations to the Shepherds College faculty & staff! Their committed work in developing & maintaining an outstanding program for people with intellectual disabilities has resulted in Shepherds College being the 1st post-secondary school for people w/intellectual disabilities being recommended for full accreditation by the NCA and, as far as we know, any accreditation board. For this and so much more, we give God all the thanks and praise.

Katy has made it to Shepherds College! The first couple of days were filled with moving into the dorm, meeting new friends, meeting her roommate, and just plain meetings. Scott and I came away from the weekend sensing what really makes Shepherds so special are the staff and faculty. What a wonderful group of servant-hearted people! And because of them, we are very encouraged that our daughter is in the best place possible to encourage her development and meet her unique needs.

Packing Up . . .
by Debbie on August 26, 2011
I came across this movie trailer on the blog of one of Katy’s new classmates Daniela. I wanted to share it with you. No matter your age or your disability you can still make a difference…
“In Wretches & Jabberers, two men with autism embark on a global quest to change prevailing attitudes about disability and intelligence. With limited speech, Tracy Thresher, 42, and Larry Bissonnette, 52, both faced lives of mute isolation in mental institutions or adult disability centers. When they learned as adults to communicate by typing, their lives changed dramatically. Their world tour message is that the same possibility exists for others like themselves. At each stop, they dissect public attitudes about autism and issue a hopeful challenge to reconsider competency and the future. Along the way, they reunite with old friends from the USA, expand the isolated world of a talented young painter and make new allies in their cause.”
